“Now it shall be, if you diligently obey the Lord your God, being careful to do all His commandments which I command you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth. All these blessings will come upon you and overtake you if you obey the Lord your God: -Deuteronomy 28:1-2 (NASB)
In the 28th chapter of Deuteronomy, we are given the promise of blessings if we but give the Lord His rightful place and acknowledge Him in all our affairs. Originally intended for a specific people in a specific time in history, as believers in Christ, we have access to those very same blessings! There is a cause for celebration. The blessings don’t just begin after we depart this world in Christ, they are here for us now– in Christ. One caveat: Read the first verse of the 28th chapter of Deuteronomy. We must be careful not to think we can just be nice to God for a moment and are then showered with all these blessings. The is something written in verse 1 about diligent obedience. Please do not confuse this with documentation to promote some sort of prosperity doctrine. More on that in future posts.
So all who put their faith in Christ share the same blessing Abraham received because of his faith. -Galatians 3:9 (NLT)
