Having Peace…

You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you. – Isaiah 26:3 (NIV)

If you’re a Christian, you know what I mean when I say that having a relationship with Jesus brings incredible peace of mind in a manner that money, sex, power or any material acquisition could never match. I’m not going to be dishonest implying that I never wrestle with fear or anxiety in my life–after all, I’m human, too. However, those feelings are much more easily recognized, short-lived and replaced with an incredibly joyful feeling of security in the knowledge that everything is going to work out just fine. This is a clear ‘180’ from where my life was for so long (even after coming to know the Lord) when I relied on self to handle life’s “ups and downs” and tried to drown out the voice of the Holy Spirit with the things of this world. That seemed to work for a long time (but not really) and, as I looked back over my life and accomplishments, I realized it was all worth practically nothing–because it had not been done to bring glory to God and promote His kingdom. That empty feeling came from a place where I tried to put all sorts of things that didn’t fit. What did fit perfectly was God. Acknowledging Jesus to be the Lord of my life actually made all of the difference as it eradicated that emptiness.

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. – John 14:27 (NIV)

Do you know Jesus? Will you take some time to pray a simple prayer and accept Him as the Lord of your life, acknowledging that He died for your sins on the cross at Calvary? I guarantee that, if you do, you will come to know that sense of security-the peace of mind- which comes from a personal relationship with Jesus.
